If sin has taken you places you never thought you’d go, kept you longer than you ever intended to stay, and you now find yourself doing things you never would’ve imagined … help is a prayer away. Call out to Jesus. He promises that if you do (Psalm 50:15, Matthew 11:28) deliverance awaits. Call out to Him. He’s waiting. http://ow.ly/Fi4iL

1a. When Lyrics Come to LifeMost of us have heard the beloved song, popularized by multiple music artists worldwide. This song is one of my favorites every Christmas for the thought provoking lyrics. It means more to me each passing year as I watch my three sons grow older. This song challenges me to put myself in Mary’s place as I recall holding my newborn sons and gazing lovingly into their precious faces.

The songwriter asked a great question: did she know? I believe she knew she was part of God’s bigger plan, but I don’t believe she fully grasped the opportunity she would have. That’s the beauty of it. When the angel Gabriel appeared to deliver God’s message to Mary, she accepted on faith saying, “. . . be it unto me according to thy word.” She didn’t know what the future held, she only knew God was asking her to serve him, and she willingly obeyed. To think: her submission led to our salvation. Though she had no way of knowing how much pain the task would cost her, how her peers would ridicule her, and how her son would be rejected and murdered, she was willing to be used by God.

Whenever I consider this, it raises a question in me. Would I have been so obedient? I hope so. Gabriel called her blessed among women and said, “. . . thou hast found favour with God.” What a testimony she had! I could never be good enough for this task on my best day. Though Jesus, alone, is the only human worthy of worship, Mary is a great example of how we women should live our lives.

I love reading Luke’s account of Jesus’ birth: Luke 2:1-20. Verse 19 states that “. . . Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.” I bet her mind was reeling over the events that had just unfolded!

The story of Jesus’ birth resounds with music that has inspired composers for 2,000 years. That rings true for lyricist Mark Lowry (Christian comedian and former member of the Gaither Vocal Band), who wrote the song in 1984 when his pastor asked him to write a musical for their Nashville, Tennessee church to be performed that Christmas season. Lowry imagined what Mary might have been thinking while she held baby Jesus on that first Christmas, along with a series of questions he would ask Mary, given the chance. Actors recited Lowry’s questions for Mary between scenes of the musical that year, but afterward he sensed they should become lyrics to a song. He and harmonica player Buddy Greene wrote the music for “Mary, Did You Know?” using Lowry’s lyrics:

Mary did you know that your baby boy would someday walk on water?

Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?

Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?

This child that you delivered, will soon deliver you.

Mary did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?

Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand?

Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?

And when you kiss your little baby, you’ve kissed the face of God.

The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again.

The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the Lamb.

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?

Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?

Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?

This sleeping child you’re holding is the great I am.

This song sure puts things in a new perspective for me. Though it’s easy to get wrapped up in the seasonal festivities, shopping sales, and overall materialism of Christmas– let’s not forget the true reason for the season!

“… whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered.”
~ Joel 2:32 KJV

Jesus walked on the water, calmed the raging sea, healed the sick and delivered those possessed with devils. That same Jesus will deliver you out of any circumstance you face today. Remember how far He has brought you from. You will not go down in defeat.

Laurie Tomlinson, fellow ACFW member and 2013 Genesis Finalist, had the great idea of having a pre-conference mix and mingle for those going to the 2013 ACFW Conference. What a great idea to be able to meet people before actually meeting them in person!

It’s a few questions designed to help people put names with faces, get to know a little bit about their writing, and break the ice before Indianapolis.

Here’s what to do:

– Fill out your own answers (you don’t have to answer all of them!) in a post on your own website and paste the URL to that post (not your home page) using this handy link-up tool. If you don’t have a website, feel free to answer the questions in the comments below!

– Make sure to link back to this post  after you fill out your answers so any of your readers who are conference attendees can participate, too! The more, the merrier.

Okay, so here are her questions and my answers!

Name: Kara Hunt

Location: Missouri

What you write/tagline: Suspense / “Some wounds refuse to be healed.”

Place in the book world: 2013 ACFW Genesis Finalist in the Suspense/Mystery/Thriller category and 2012 Semi-Finalist in ACFW’s Genesis for my submission in the Women’s Fiction category.

On a scale of hugger to 10-foot-pole, please rate your personal space: Hugger!!

The unique talking point that will get you going for hours: World events

People at home you’ll be missing: My hubby Curt, my two adult sons, Blake and Stone, and Zeke our outrageously spoiled beagle mix.

Conference goals we can pray for? That God’s will will be done at conference, not mine.

Up for any contests/awards? Yep!!!

Any disclosures, disclaimers, or crucial information we must know? Yes. I love Strawberry Twizzlers and Ginger ale. Please don’t be alarmed if you see gobs of them threatening to fall to the floor from my over-stuffed purse!

YOU MAY THINK IT’S A SECRET, BUT WE’VE ALL GOT THEM …We’ve all got our issues! Maybe you feel like life just isn’t going your way, or you’re afraid that you don’t measure up to other people’s expectations. Perhaps you have a hard time managing your temper or have someone in your life you just can’t forgive. We deal with our “issues” every day in one form or another; the problem is, after a while, they start to feel . . . normal. Unchanging. Just part of who we are. And we forget that we have access to the power of Christ—a power that can transform our everyday weaknesses into our greatest strengths and gifts.

Enough about me, let’s talk about you. What do you think of me?

C.C. Bloom,Beaches

The above quote is from the book She’s Got Issues, in chapter five entitled “Insidious Insecurity” which I believe is a good way to sum up the issues that many women face today.

Author, Nicole Unice in the book and DVD brings to light the issue of insecurity, as well as others such as comparisons, fear, anger, and unforgiveness. She also warns about the damage they will do to our relationships with Christ, our families and our lives, if left unchecked. Using Scriptures from the Bible, that author lays a good foundation on how to deal with these peace-stealers and how to enjoy God’s presence while also restoring our joy in the everyday, mundane things in life. The same things, that may have become triggers for our issues.

Small groups will be in for treat using the book along with the DVD Group experience. In the DVD, Nicole and her friends bravely share their own experiences with control, insecurity, fear, anger and unforgiveness and the negative effects of that behavior, and how it can spill over into the lives of the ones we love.

Highly Recommended. She’s Got Issues book and DVD Curriculum will be an enjoyable and refreshingly new way for women to face and discuss the tough issues facing women of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. I encourage getting the curriculum for yourself or for small discussion groups.

In She’s Got Issues, Christian counselor, ministry leader, and regular mom Nicole Unice explores the ordinary issues that are keeping you from the full and free life you were meant to have. Applying years of counseling with practical scriptural teaching and a fresh and authentic voice, Nicole shows you how to let God freely shape your character—and transform your life from ordinary to abundant.

Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book and DVD.
